Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises other members of the Engineering Department on a project basis. The Project Engineer operates as a supervisor for all engineering related to a project.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
B.S.E. degree in appropriate engineering major or equivalent technical training and job experience is required.
At least five (5) years of marine design engineering experience, including at least two (2) years direct interaction in a shipyard production environment. One (1) year in supervisor position is preferred. The person must be familiar with U.S. Navy and commercial vessel specifications, contracts, standards, and regulatory requirements.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: P.E. or F.E. and working toward license desired.
Required Skills:
• Ability to organize, direct and manage workloads.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to proactively interface with production personnel as primary customer.
• PC skills required, including use of ShipConstructor and AutoCad.
Required Soft Skills and Competencies:
The Project Engineer coordinates his/her efforts with managers and supervisors at all levels of a specific project. The position represents the Company through formal and informal interactions with the customer. Additionally, the individual contacts regulatory body officials and industry peers.
Job Environments / Physical Demands:
Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced office setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard. The individual may be required to be in production areas in yard and onboard ships. While in production areas, will be exposed to all weather conditions, noise, dusts and odors. He/she must be able to walk to and from job sites. The person must be able to climb inclined stairways and vertical ladders; to enter confined areas and tanks; to work at heights. He/she may be required to work more than 8-hour shifts and weekend work. There may be local travel and out-of-town travel (including air travel) up to 5% of the time with notice.
