(Many of the exciting Seattle opportunities have been created because the Company has been awarded two Washington State Ferry contracts.  The anticipated duration is through the end of 2014.  As a result, the continuance of this position beyond the referenced projects will be contingent upon future project awards being obtained.)

Job Purpose

The position provides engineering and technical support, guidance, and leadership on assigned projects in accordance with the project scope, to the Project Manager and all supporting internal departments, customers, suppliers, and subcontracted design agents.

Duties

(This is not an all inclusive list of the regular job duties. Other responsibilities within the accepted job scope will apply.)

1. Develop concepts, strategies, plans and estimates to meet engineering requirements for prospective projects.  Support bids and estimates with materials quantification or advice, technical analyses, advice, planning, schedules, as needed.
2. Prepare and maintain an overall engineering project plan, managing the requirements and resources to achieve schedules, budgets, complete and appropriate technical products, contract and regulatory compliance, document controls, and communications with customers, project teams, and suppliers.
3. Manage design verification and validation in accordance with established procedures.  Gain regulatory approvals when required.  Work with customers to approve proposed designs and solutions.
4. Ensure timely delivery of design, procurement specifications, necessary calculations and supporting documentation to support project requirements.
5. Provide technical guidance to internal engineering staff and/or Design Agents as required, and to all Production, Procurement, and Project Management Departments.
6. Conduct or participate in necessary meetings and write technical letters and reports.
7. Improve efficiency by actively searching for opportunities to improve data quality, data delivery/presentation, and yard production practices.
8. Respond to change productively and contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
9. Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Engineering.

Operates within general parameters, but must use sound judgment and independent decision making when carrying out job responsibilities.  Has the ability to influence and recommend modifying existing protocols.  The role reports to the Director of Engineering.  The incumbent and staff are held accountable for the profitable performance of the work performance.  Failure to meet the expectations of the customer could result in significant loss of future business.
